Welcome to Pequenakonck Elementary School Curriculum Overview!

At Pequenakonck Elementary, located in the heart of North Salem, New York, we take pride in providing a nurturing and academically enriching environment for our Pre-K through Grade 5 students. Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet the diverse needs of our young learners while fostering a love of learning, creativity, and critical thinking.

Pre-Kindergarten Program

Our Pre-K program lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning through hands-on exploration, play-based learning, and social-emotional development. Children are introduced to early literacy, math concepts, and problem-solving skills in a joyful and engaging environment.

Kindergarten to Grade 5 Curriculum

Our K-5 curriculum is aligned with New York State Learning Standards, ensuring students are prepared for the challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow. We focus on building core competencies in the following areas:

  • English Language Arts (ELA):
    Students develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through engaging texts, writing projects, and interactive discussions. Our goal is to foster a love for reading and strong communication skills.
  • Mathematics:
    We emphasize problem-solving, logical reasoning, and fluency with numbers. Students explore foundational concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, progressing to geometry, fractions, and data interpretation.
  • Science:
    With a focus on inquiry-based learning, students explore topics in life, physical, and earth sciences. Hands-on experiments and STEM activities inspire curiosity and innovation.
  • Social Studies:
    Students learn about their community, state, and world, exploring history, geography, culture, and civics. Lessons emphasize critical thinking, empathy, and understanding of diverse perspectives.
