In Mariya Perreault's Earth Science class at North Salem Middle School, eighth graders began a new unit by rotating through hands-on stations exploring different types of systems: an electrical circuit, a toy car launcher, and the human body.

"This is not about what we already know; it's about what knowledge we can gather and apply," Perreault said.

Third graders in Ariana Anderson's class acted out scenes with silent, frozen tableaus to bring Patricia Polacco's book "Thank You, Mr. Falker" to life. Working in groups, the Pequenakonck Elementary students chose a moment from the story and struck a pose, while classmates guessed which scene they were recreating

Sixth Grade University gave students a hands-on start to middle school in the school’s quad. With English teacher Lynn Colwell, students raced the clock to open their lockers, and many got their combination spin down to eight seconds. Math teacher Katie Ticker helped students organize their supplies and prepare for each class. In Jim Savarese's social studies classroom, students worked in groups to research school policies, clubs, and resources, then presented their findings to classmates.

With number cards stuck to foreheads, students laughed and high-fived their way through a lesson in Anna Frates's second-grade classroom at Pequenakonck Elementary.

The students were playing Numbers Up, a game focused on practicing math facts. In small groups, two students each wore a card with a hidden number on their forehead. Another classmate shared only the sum of the two numbers, and the pair used subtraction and addition to figure out their own numbers.

North Salem Middle/High School students packed the turf for this year's Homecoming Pep Rally, cheering on the Tigers and celebrating the start of fall sports season. The energy was electric as students came together to show their Tiger pride.
